Sustainability in packaging

Sustainable packaging in autumn leaves – environmentally friendly packaging in an outdoor setting

Over 5.5 million tons of waste are generated annually by transport packaging in Germany. [Nabu, 2021] Packaging waste is becoming an ever greater environmental problem. Wemonte has decided to take responsibility and play an active role in solving this problem.

More than just a cardboard

Germany consumes around 19 million tons of paper, cardboard and paperboard every year. The paper is often disposed of after just one use. The production of paper has a significant impact on the climate and causes damage to forests worldwide [Nabu, 2021].
Wemonte has sent around 40 parcels since it was founded. We have always taken care not to use new cardboard packaging. Instead, we continue to use cardboard packaging that we receive from our suppliers. This is a small but significant act for us and we are proud of our contribution.

A sticker as a sign of sustainability

So that our customers are not blindsided by the fact that one or two boxes have a history, we have developed a collection of stickers to indicate that they can be reused. We got the idea for this from one of our suppliers who, as a pioneer in sustainable textiles, supplied our new wemonte bags. Thanks for the inspiration @Cantana!

The stickers also have to be produced and printed and of course it would be most environmentally friendly to do without them. However, we made a conscious decision to use the stickers as we hope that this will encourage others to think about it. The sticker is intended to encourage our customers to think about reusing packaging. Naturally, we chose sustainable and environmentally friendly materials when selecting the paper and adhesive.
